Blow-Off and Bypass Valves

MODEL-SPECIFIC BOVs

bov - diagram comparo

WHEN TO CHOOSE A MODEL-SPECIFIC BOV?
If your vehicle is running higher than the standard boost level, you should upgrade the factory BOV, as it is designed to leak boost!
The Model-Specific BOV range has been designed to cater for cars with engine bays with space or design constraints that make fitting a Universal BOV difficult or even impossible.

WHY BUY A TURBOSMART MODEL-SPECIFIC BOV?
Ideal upgrade from a factory valve, Turbosmart Model-Specific BOVs provide protection for the turbocharger by reducing turbo cavitation on throttle back-off and gearchanges while also reducing turbo lag between gears for even greater performance.
All Turbosmart Model-Specific BOVs feature a simple tool free
adjustable cap used to tune the operation to personal preferences.
Quick and simple “bolt-on” installation with no need for any vehicle modification. All parts supplied in the box.

is it possible to have the wrong spring installed from the factory? ive got a 2009 wrx with a full exhaust and cobb stage 2 tune. Ive tightened the valve all the way and im still backfiring at low boost. the spring in it now is black. any ideas?

joe    Jul 9, 10:30 AM    #

with yellow paint marks on the spring.

Hi,

I have a 2006 Evo with the dual-port, however I believe I have an older model of the dual-port. I want to be able to fully recirculate back into the intake track as my MAF has major issues off throttle (instantly rich afr’s with poor idle). Problem is that I don’t see any blocking plate available for the red-capped dual port that has a vertically-positioned vacuum nipple.

The trumpet that I want to replace with a blanking plate (i’m assuming this will cure my issue) has a base with 4 hex bolts vs. the current model’s threaded screw-on design. Is there a port block plate that I can buy to eliminate the trumpet/VTA? If not, will loosening the spring cap (currently set to full hard) cause it to recirculate? Thanks.

Dave

Dave    Jul 11, 03:31 PM    #

Joe,

The yellow spring is correct. Depending on the tune, you might still have a back fire now and then as you are still venting air to atmosphere. Your tune might be slightly richer on back off compared to standard resulting in the back fire.

Tech Support    Jul 12, 08:25 AM    #

Dave,

The blocking plate with the 4 screws in it has the same thread in the center as our current range of BOVs. Therefore, if you put a bar through the cutouts in the trumpet and turn it out, you will expose the thread in which the current blanking plug (TS-0205-3103) will screw in.

Hi there, I need a replacement 400mm of 5mm Silicone vacuum line for the Mitsubishi Dual Port BOV (Evo X) – how can i go about getting this i.e. where from (i have tried autobarn – no luck)?

Sam    Jul 13, 03:04 PM    #

Hi
I have a 1999 Subaru GT Forester. Can you please advise me if the BOV flange is the same as what is found in the WRX?
The factory BOV also has 2 vacuum ports, but all aftermarket offerings have only one port. Do i just plug one of the vacuum lines? (i believe one may be for the factory boost solenoid)
I want to run the BOV in atmopsheric mode, but it needs to be very compact and short as there is not much room in the engine bay as the coilpacks are in the way (unlike the wrx)
What do you recommend?
thanks

Ayms    Jul 13, 04:10 PM    #

Sam,

Any of our dealers can get our vacuum line. Check our dealers page for your closest stockist.

Tech Support    Jul 13, 04:13 PM    #

Ayms,

The flange pattern is not the same as the WRX. You will need our Forester adapter kit (TS-0205-2051) and can choose between our Vee Port (TS-0205-1100 Blue) (TS-0205-1101 Black) or Supersonic (TS-0205-1300 Blue) (TS-0205-1301) BOV’s.

Tech Support    Jul 13, 04:21 PM    #

Hi I need a BOV for my 2001 WRX Impreza, I’ve had to take the Vee Port off as cops have defected me.What do you recommend, I want to be able to change between atmospheric and full plumb back. The sleeper series BOV looks good in black or maybe something else. What would you suggest?
I don’t have the 34mm plumb bank elbow that bolts onto the BOV for the plumb back inlet return.Do you have an adapter to use for this,I can’t buy one from Subaru as they currently don’t have any in Australia at the moment?

Thanks
Warwick

warwick    Jul 14, 11:32 AM    #

Warwick,

Our Subaru Dual Port will bolt onto your standard intercooler and allow you to convert from atmoshperic to full plumb back with the supplied blank plug.
We do not have the standard elbow found on the standard BOV. Check at your local car wreckers for this part.

Can u give me some advice, just purchased a super sonic dump valve for my Subaru wrx 53 plate. Went to fit it tonight and the trumpet gets in the way of fitting it? The pipe work round the intercooler stops it sitting flush to fit it?

Tasha    Jul 20, 06:24 AM    #

Tasha,

Did you purchase the valve brand new or second hand? The BOV should have come with a hose relocation kit which relocates the oil breather lines located on the intercooler to under the intercooler to make clearance for the trumpet.

Tech Support    Jul 20, 09:15 AM    #

Yeah I bought dump valve second hand, it was used on a demo car, all they sent me was the dump valve on it’s own, I had to make my own bung, where would I get the fitting kit I need to get it to fit, regards. Tasha

Tasha    Jul 20, 10:22 PM    #

Tasha,

If you download the instructions for our Subaru model specific BOV, it will give you a list of the hoses and fittings needed as well as pictures on how the hose should be installed. Unfortunately, we do not sell the hoses separately but they should be easily acquired from an automotive shop.

Does ts 205-1015 fit a 2010 subaru sti? The item description says up to MY09 only but the 08 to 2010 are pretty much the same. Just want to be absolutely sure before i purchased. Thanks!

Cliff,

Yes, the TS-0205-1015 fits the 2010 Subaru STI.

I recently purchased one of you model specific dual port BOVs and a bottle of turbosmart oil for my Mazdaspeed6. I just wanted to know how often should I clean and oil the BOV? And how do I go about doing that? Do you have any directions for cleaning/oiling?

Herdick    Jul 28, 11:51 PM    #

Hi there,I’ve purchased a MITSUBISHI DUAL PORT BOV TS-0205-1020 for my Ralliart Colt.by unscrewing the blank plug(plumb back outlet) and using another trumpet which i brought an extra one from TurboSmart,is it possible for the ECU to stay happy(Check Engine Light Free)

i have heard reviews saying under all kind of conditions and methods of venting with this BOV comfirm has no problems with the ECU:) Thanks Many!

Max    Jul 29, 08:36 PM    #

Hi I just purchased a dual port bov for my mazdaspeed 3, Is there any recommendation on how hard or soft the spring setting should be? How many turns? Also, can you tell me the recommended setting for this particular valve on this vehicle(dual port or full recirculation)? Thanks many..

Giuseppe    Jul 31, 11:49 AM    #

Herdick,

On our website has a tech article on how to dismantle and clean your BOV. Just carefully take screw the cap off as the cap is under a fair bit of spring force. Take the piston out and clean the piston and the bore of the body with a clean rag. Re lubricate and reassemble. Frequency is up to how dirty the environment is such as snowy conditions or in an area with alot of dust. Under normal circumstances, once every 4 – 6 months is healthy.

Tech Support    Aug 3, 09:00 AM    #

Max,

It is possible for the ECU to stay happy. All ECU’s are different and look for different signals before giving a check engine light. Certain ECU’s check for loss of air or rich conditions, others don’t but it is highly possible that you can have it completely VTA without any problems.

Tech Support    Aug 3, 09:05 AM    #

Giuseppe,

In full recirculation, the softest setting is ideal where as in dual port, half way between full hard and full soft would be close to where it needs to be.

Tech Support    Aug 3, 09:13 AM    #

Hi,may i know why is my Mitsubishi Dual Port BOV not loud as my friend’s? is there any problems with it? i currently on stock air-box while my friend’s on open-pod setup.is really soft when the sound is vented out.i’m boosting 0.9 bar without tuning while my friend boosting 1.0 bar with tuning.please help..

Max    Aug 9, 09:41 PM    #

Max,

Your friends BOV will be louder due to the higher boost levels and the filter and tuning upgrade.

Tech Support    Aug 10, 09:10 AM    #

Hello,

Can you please recommend a blow-off valve from your current range that will fit an ’06 Mitsubishi Colt CZT? The BOV needs to be a dual-piston type due to the engine’s MAF sensor.

Thanks and Regards

Clifton

Clifton Vella    Aug 26, 01:07 AM    #

Clifton,

You can use our Kompact Dual Port 34mm (TS-0203-1023) for your engine. Alternatively, the 38mm EVO Dual port (TS-0205-1020) will also fit.

Tech Support    Aug 26, 09:14 AM    #

Hello,

I own a 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart. What BOV model would fit my car ?

William    Aug 30, 01:09 AM    #

William,

A Kompact Plumb back or dual Port 34mm will fit your car.

Tech Support    Aug 30, 08:48 AM    #

Just got an XR6 turbo BF2 auto…what BOV would you suggest and to you have a model specific BOV for it??

Paul    Aug 31, 02:29 PM    #

Paul,

Our Kompact 25mm dual port or plumb back will be a direct fit. These are suitable as a factory upgrade where you’re only lightly modifying the engine. Alternatively, you can get our pipe adapter to mount a larger 38mm Vee Port or Supersonic to your car if you’re planning on increasing the power output substantially.
